More than 1600 years ago Saint Augustine said if believers are going to speak on science they should have current knowledge. Otherwise they will look like fools. He believed science had the best picture of the natural world.
I agree.
I am a believer who accepts science as the best description of the natural world and who believes Young Earth Creationism is a blight on the Church. A blight because Creationism, like televangelism, is a proud, arrogant, display of something we should be ashamed of. Because if creationism is right, then Einstein must be wrong. I will talk about that next.
And don't think for a minute that rejecting Einstein and Darwin is something that is universal for the Church. Young Earth Creationism is a made-in-America idea we export, just like the "Left Behind" view of Bible prophecy.
Augustine thought the world very old in 400 AD. Believers the world over think that today. The odd place is here in America.
